Varun Gandhi apologises for his communal speech

by Sunil Sonkar

Communal speech by Varun Gandhi, son of Sanjay Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi, a day before in an election campaign in Pilibhit from where he is being fielded on a BJP ticket has hit the media strongly. On Tuesday Varun Gandhi has issued an apology and clarified that he did not say anything against any particular community.

Gandhi denied that whatever he has said was not communal. He added that he was speaking against anti social elements. Recently in his area two girls were raped and people were frightened in that area. Varun Gandhi’s main motive behind the speech was to bolster the confidence among the people.

He apologized, “If my comments have hurt anyone, I apologise.”

The clarification of Gandhi came on the heels of the Pilibit (UP) District Magistrate filing an FIR against him. The Election Commission had directed the Chief Election Officer UP to file a case against Varun Gandhi and issue notice to his party for the communal remarks against a particular religion.
