US Report: An American eat 5 times more than an Indian
While Bush had blamed Chinese & Indians for global food crisis, a US report said total foodgrain consumption by each person in the US is over five times that of an Indian. Each Indian gets to eat about 178 kg of grain in a year, while a US citizen consumes 1,046 kg. In per capita terms, US grain consumption is twice that of the European Union & thrice that of China. Grain consumption includes flour & by conversion to alcohol. In fact, per capita grain consumption has increased in the US — so actually the Americans are eating more.
Yesterday George Washington Bush had said that Indian middle class are responible for rising food prices. Bush said on Saturday that the growing prosperity of India`s large middle class is contributing to rising food prices around the world.
He said in Marylan Heights, Missouri, “The more prosperous the world is, the more opportunity there is. He said, “It also, however, increases demand”.
Bush said, “There are 350 million people in India who are classified as middle class. That’s bigger than America. Their middle class is larger than our entire population & when you start getting wealth, you start demanding better nutrition & better food & so demand is high & that causes the price to go up”.
