Trade unions call “Nationwide strike” tomorrow
Aug 19th, 2008 | Category:Breaking News, Delhi News, Haryana News, India News, National NewsLeft-backed trade unions have called a “Nationwide strike” on Wednesday to protest against the “anti-worker,” “anti-people” neo-liberal economic policies of globalisation. A. Soundararajan, state general secretary of the CITU has said that “rail rokos” had been planned in a few places as a part of the strike. He also said, “Even bus rokos could take place, in case the buses were operated”.
He said, the trade unions such as CITU, AITUC, AICCTU, AIUTUC, HMS, bank employees union, BSNL workers would be participating in the strike. He said that the Provident Fund (PF) of the government employees to the tune of Rs 2.5 lakh crore was being diverted to multi-national companies (MNCs) and they, in turn, invested the PF money in share markets.
