Apr 16th, 2008 | Category:Delhi News, India News, National NewsAt least 60 Tibetans on Wednesday attempted to storm the Chinese embassy in New Delhi & clashed with security personnel. Waving Tibetan flags and wearing “Free Tibet” headbands, about 60 protestors, including women, emerged near the embassy located in high security Chanakyapuri area at around 10:30 am & tried to break the security cordon.
The protestors then entered into a clash with police & paramilitary personnel, who were deployed in large numbers near the embassy building. The Tibetans shouted slogans against China & its leaders including Premier Hu Jintao.
However, the personnel foiled the Tibetans’ attempt and were taken into custody even as they resisted the detention, the official said. The vehicular movement in the area was affected for some time due to the protest.
The security of the embassy has been strengthened in view of the continuing protests by Tibetans against “Chinese atrocities” in their homeland.
