Supreme Court: Ban on SIMI will continue
Aug 6th, 2008 | Category:Breaking News, Delhi News, Haryana News, India News, National NewsThe Supreme Court has on Wednesday stayed the order of a HC tribunal lifting ban on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). A petition challenging the tribunal’s verdict was mentioned before the bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, which agreed with the Centre seeking a grant of interim stay.
The Court issued a notice to the SIMI & posted the matter for hearing after three weeks. The special tribunal had on Tuesday lifted the ban on SIMI. The tribunal, headed by Justice Geeta Mittal, a sitting Delhi High Court judge, observed that there is no evidence against SIMI showing them terrorists.
