Sanjay Dutt & Manyata’s marriage is valid
A Mumbai session court has on Monday overruled the previous order by a lower court & upheld Sajay Dutt & Manyata’s marriage. The lower court had earlier ruled that Manyata had not obtained a divorce from her first husband –Meeraj-ur-Rehman–& therefore could not marry Sanjay Dutt. Mumbai Court has dismissed the appeal filed by Meraj, who is Manyata’s ex-husband, asking for take Sanjay-Manyata’s marriage as illegal.
Contrary to the lower court’s ruling Mumbai sessions court has declared their marriage valid. The sessions court has ruled that Manyata is legally divorced & can marry again. Sanjay Dutt & Manyata had a court marriage in Goa on Feb 7 2008. The marriage later faced legal issues as it was said to be in violation of Muslim Personal Law. According to legal experts, a Muslim woman cannot marry a man of any other religion unless she converts herself to the religion of her would-be husband or vice-versa.
In addition to the issues with the Muslim Personal Law, Manyata’s former husband Meeraj-ur-Rehman had also moved a petition in a Bandra Magistrate’s court stating that his marriage to Manyata had not been dissolved.
