People which are living below poverty line in Madhya Pradesh will get subsidised food from fair price shops from Tuesday. This will be made possible under a scheme called Mukhya Mantri Annapurna Yojana. Beneficiaries will get wheat & rice at Rs.3 & Rs.4.50 a kilo respectively.
An allocation of Rs.160 crore (Rs.1.6 billion) has been made in the budget for giving the subsidy. Over 4.5 million BPL families will benefit from the scheme.
Each family will get 20 kg of wheat or rice. This will entail an annual financial burden of Rs.213 crore (Rs.2.13 billion) to the state exchequer.
