PM’s surgery successful said Doctor, PMO & Pranab Mukherjee

ACCORDING TO DOCTOR the coronary by-pass surgery of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was successful. The surgery was done at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The condition of Dr Manmohan Singh is stable. He is now in ICU and post surgery care has also begun.

The surgery was conducted by a team of 11 doctors led by surgeon Ramakant Panda. Earlier, Dr V K Bahi did the diagnostic angiography on January 21.

Dr Ramakant Panda said, “Manmohan Singh had undergone a bypass surgery 19 years back. The surgery will provide a long term solution and went in his favour as he’s diabetic.”

Today at 6.40 am Dr Singh was taken to Operation Theatre and the surgery began at 8.45 am. It got over at 7.30 pm and our Prime Minister was shifted to ICU at 8.55 pm.

When asked by reporters about what Dr Singh said before this 14 hour long operation. Head of the department, cardiac surgery, Sampath Kumar said that before the anaesthesia was given to Dr Singh, he said “I am ready.”

The PMO briefed to media, “Operation is successful. PM was shifted to ICU at 8.55pm.” External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said, “Doctors are confident that Prime Minister is recovering well after surgery.”

Dr Singh is 78 year old.
