A prominent ethnic Indian politician has passed away in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday after prolonged illness.

Malaysian Indian politician M G Pandithan, President of the Progressive Front party, was suffering from cancer. He was 68 years old. Pandithan was also a former vice-president of Malaysian Indian Congress.

The IPF leader was once seen as a protege of MIC supremo Samy Vellu until they fell out in 1988, after which Pandithan was sacked from the party.
