Karnataka bandh on April 14 has announced by Kannada groups on Tuesday to protest Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi’s statement that his government would go ahead with the controversial Hogenakkal water project.
Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, which is leading the protests, said Tamil films would not be allowed to be screened in the state and Tamil channels would be blacked out until Tamil Nadu withdraws from the project.
He said that its activists would block buses & trains heading to Tamil Nadu. All theatres screening Tamil films were shut on Tuesday in response to Vedike’s demand. Vedike said, “We are not against a government-to-government compromise, but it should protect all interests”.
