Hogenakkal drinking water project put on hold
Dr. Kalaignar M Karunanidhi the chief minister of Tamil Nadu on Saturday put Hogenakkal drinking water project on hold till after the upcoming Assembly Elections in Karnataka. M Karunanidhi said in his statement that he didn’t want any violence in Karnataka in the name of the Hogenakkal drinking water project.
The development came after former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna said that the state government was ready to move to the Supreme Court on the Hogenakkal issue if need arises.
A senior official of Congresssaid that he was not concerned if moving the Supreme Court on the issue will upset the DMK – a crucial ally of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.
S M Krishna had earlier met Manmohan Singh the Prime Minister on Wednesday to seek the Central government`s intervention on the issue. He had urged the PM to convince the Tamil Nadu government to postpone operationalisation of the project till after the Assembly Elections in Karnataka.
