Heavy rains submerge Port Blair airport
Heavy rains submerged Port Blair airport & cut off air services from the airport on Saturday, stranding passengers & virtually snapping travel links between Andaman & Nicobar Islands & the mainland.
As the airport submerged under water 1.5 feet of water, no flights could land or take off from the airport. The weather officials said that almost 207 mm of rainfall was recorded after very heavy rains since Friday night.
The ground floor of the terminal building was submerged in 1.5 feet of water, leading passengers & others to rush to the upper floors. Three flights on Saturday morning from Kolkata of Air India, Air Deccan & Jet Airways could not land & returned to eastern metropolis.
