Heavy rains lashed Orissa, 1 killed
Heavy rains lashed several parts of Orissa on Tuesday which killed one & raising the specter of floods in many parts of the state. The heavy rains also threw train traffic out of gear & affected the movement of floods in low lying areas.
While the depression over the Bay of Bengal moved in north westerly direction & lay centred at about 80 km north east of Kolkata, south-west monsoon has been vigorous over Orissa triggering heavy rains. Some places in north & south Orissa received heavy to very heavy rainfall. The rains have claimed one life in Mayurbhanj district where a man died due to wall collapse.
Jaleshwar & Rajghat recorded the highest rainfall of 25 cm, followed by 19 cm at Bhogarai, 17 cm at Jashipur, 14 cm each at Balasore & Baripada, 13 cm each at Udala & Khandapada, 12 cm at Jeypore, 11 cm at Ghatagaon & 9 cm each at Soro, Sukinda & Anandpur. Though the rivers were flowing below danger mark, a flood-like situation was emerging.
