Heavy Rains in Varanasi killed 8
Aug 20th, 2008 | Category:Breaking News, Cities News, India News, National News, States NewsAt least eight people have been killed & more than two dozen injured due to heavy rainfall in eastern Uttar Pradesh since last night. About 300 mm rainfall has been recorded in 12 hours since 8 PM in Varanasi.
Over a dozen houses have collapsed, killing at least seven people, including three women & two dozen others were injured in rain related incidents. A 14 years old boy identified as Mayank Rajbhat was electrocuted when he came in contact with a high tension wire that had snapped due to heavy rains in Bajardeha area.
Mohan, 55 years old & his wife Manorma, 50 years old, were buried alive while five others were injured when a wall collapsed in Lolupur area. Another couple, identified as M L Yadav & his wife Sheela, were killed when a hotel wall collapsed in Cantt area. Three others died in in wall collapse incidents in Sadar, Bhelupur & Pindra areas.
