Tamil Nadu is receiving heavy rainfall for the past few days which claimed nine lives so far & damaged standing crop in many areas while non-stop rains in the Nilgiris for the past six days has forced residents indoors in the tourist town of Udhagamandalam, 20,000 acres of paddy crop in Tirunelveli have been submerged under the flood waters. Kothagiri-Dottapeta road in Nilgiris, vehicular movement has been affected.

Weather officials said that twenty villages have been cut off in the district due to landslide, but no casualty has been reported.

In the last 24 hours, Radhapuram received 19 cm rain while Karur & Paramathi recorded 15 cm each. The tirunelveli district is expected to submit a final report on the extent of losses in the district in a few days.

In Coimbatore, heavy rains have ensured copius inflow to the Siruvani Dam, which is the main source of water supply to the industrial city. In Chennai, where there has been a letup in the downpour since morning, the four reservoirs, Chembarambakkam, Porur, Puzhal and Red Hills are fast filling up.

Karunanidhi the Chief Minister said that the government has sanctioned 100 crore for immediate undertaking of relief work in nine districts.
