Heavy Rain, dust storms claims 22 lives in Northern India
May 27th, 2008 | Category:India News, National NewsAt least 22 people have been killed in north India due to Dust storms & heavy rains. An additional 89 people died in unseasonal rain & dust storms in Uttar Pradesh state last week.
Bad weather caused “havoc” on Monday as strong winds of more than 113 kph & heavy rains swept through the state, uprooting trees & electricity poles & destroying mud-brick houses. Five were children among killed in different incidents of house collapses & lightning strikes.
23 people were injured & have been admitted to state-run hospitals. According to government estimates the state has lost property & crops worth one billion rupees because of two weeks of bad weather.
