Gurmeet Singh former CM Darbara Singh’s kin released on bail

The grandson of Darbara Singh the former Chief Minister of Punjab, Gurmeet Singh who was arrested for injuring four people by his speeding BMW car, was granted bail on Sunday. A BMW car driven by the grandson of a Darbara Singh hit four labourers causing serious injuries to them in the wee hours on Sunday. Darbara Singh was Punjab Chief Minister from June 6, 1980 to October 10, 1983.

A senior official of Police said that the incident took place around 4 am on ring road near Safdarjang in South West Delhi. A case of negligent driving has been filed against Gurmeet Singh in Sarojni Nagar police station & was taken into custody for a brief while. Gurmeet Singh was allegedly in an inebriated condition.

The injured were taken to Safdarjung hospital. However, all the four were later discharged from the hospital. The families of the injured, however, have demanded a compensation.

After being granting bail Gurmeet Singh’s lawyer Prashant Mehendiratta said that he was not to be blamed for the accident as the truck driver was at fault.

Prashant Mehendiratta said, “The truck driver had parked the truck in the middle of the road to change tyres, it is his fault”.

He also said that the monetary relief will also be granted to the relatives of the victims. The labourers were replacing the rear tyre of a truck when the speeding car on its way to Noida, hit them.
