Govt: No foreigner will be allowed to buy land in Goa
Mar 30th, 2008 | Category:Cities News, India News, National News, States NewsThe government of Goa has decided that no foreigner will be allowed to buy land in the state for personal purposes. The government also said that the foreigners can buy land for business purposes, but only after following specific & stringent conditions.
A retired forest officer from United Kingdom said, “I think we should work in Goa as the UK works with foreigners. Just consider Asians & Goans in UK for the time being. Once they are entitled to live in UK legally, there is no hindrance for them. They can have British passport, join political party, have bank account, buy property & avail free medical service as well. Unfortunately, it does not work that way in India. There is no entitlement in Goa”.
Stung by allegations that foreigners enjoy a free reign in Goa, the government is now tightening the rules for the purchase of land. However, not everyone is happy with the move.
