Golden Temple Jathedar Vedanti resigns
Aug 5th, 2008 | Category:Breaking News, India News, National News, Punjab NewsJoginder Singh Vedanti, Jathedar of Akal Takht, has on Tuesday resigned from his post alleging he was asked to resign by a top functionary of the SGPC (Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee)
However, Avtar Singh Makkar, president of SGPC said that Vedanti quit on health grounds. Vedanti resigned “voluntarily citing ill-health as the reason”, he added.
The meeting, lasting three hours, accepted Vedanti’s resignation & appointed Golden temple Head Priest Gurbachan Singh as acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs.
