FIR against former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya
Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police filed a chargesheet against the former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya in the Mumbai Sessions Court on March 26.
An official said that the EOW has informed the BCCI that they have uncovered evidence which suggests that Dalmiya misappropriated funds to the tune of Rs 2.9 crore during the 1996 World Cup.
The World Cup was jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka & Pakistan. Under the Sharad Pawar regime, the BCCI in March 2006 had filed an FIR against Dalmiya for misappropriation of funds, forgery & cheating.
Former secretary SK Nair, former treasurers, Kishore Rungta & Jyoti Bajpai & Dalmiya’s assistant Kishan Choudhary were also named in the FIR for cheating & forgery.
However, Dalmiya had refuted the charges by saying the FIR was based on “fake allegations” & done with “malicious intent”.
