He has been arrested for his alleged castiest remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.
Tikait may be get bail immediately after being arrested & produced in court. His surrender & subsequent arrest has ended the standoff that had gripped the Sisauli village in western Uttar Pradesh.
Mahendra Singh Tikait left Sisauli village with his supporters a little after a panchayat meeting to discuss Tikait’s surrender earlier on Wednesday. Tikait had earlier on Wednesday morning called for a meeting of village panchayat. It has been decided in the meeting that there should be a compromise formula to end the standoff.
Explaining the need for Tikait’s surrender, the panchayat said they did not want any bloodshed.
The farmer leader had attacked Chief Minister Mayawati, making cast-based remarks against her on Sunday.
