Even If PM Mops Floor, CWG Facilities Won’t Be Ready: Modi

Ahmedabad, August 31 — Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday said even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh mops the floor, the Commonwealth Games’ venues and other facilities will not be ready on time. He observed that the CWG preparations were in a “mess”.

Modi taunted the organisers of CWG saying any government body in Ahmedabad would have ensured that before the event’s opening ceremony all the stadia were ready.

At a function in the city, CM said, “I don’t know what is happening in the Commonwealth Games. Even if the PM (Manmohan Singh) starts wiping the floor, the venues won’t be ready for the game.”

Modi also added, “CWG people had four years to get the venues ready, but they are still struggling. They should have given it to Ahmedabad ( Municipal Corporation), which would have built those stadiums in time.”

Four deadlines have been missed in handing over the games venues to the CWG organisers, which prompts the PM to take charge for avoiding any further delays.

The venues were suppose to be completed by August 31 and it is further said to be delayed according to Union minister Jaipal Reddy, blaming the rain.

The Commonwealth Games starts from October 3.
