Cyclone “Nisha” to hit Tamil Nadu

Heavy Rainfall in Tamil Nadu

The metrological department have sounded an alert in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu as Cyclone “Nisha” is expected to hit between Nagapattan & Vedranyam coasts. As many as 3,500 people have been evacuated & moved to the safer place. The wind speed at the coastal areas was at 50km/hr. The alert was issued after heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds swept parts of Tamil Nadu forcing authorities to close schools & colleges in Chennai & three other districts on Wednesday.

Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Nagappattinam & Tiruvarur are the worst-hit districts. Fresh floods & water-logging have been reported from several parts of Tamil Nadu. Crops worth millions of rupees, are reportedly damaged due to heavy rain and floods. Thousand of people have been evacuated to safer places.
