Transport minister Subhas Chakraborty has announced a compensation of Rs 1.25 lakh for relatives of the 20 passengers who died in bus accident on Friday, in 24 North Parganas district.
Subhas Chakraborty, who visited the accident spot near Baguihati during the day, said the state government would pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the families of each of the deceased.
The local nursing homes also announced free medical treatment of the injured. Rajarhat-Gopalpur municipality Chairman Tapas Chatterjee said, that a nagarik convention would be held on April 9 to evolve strategies to avoid recurrence of road mishaps in the area.
Meanwhile, BSF divers abandoned efforts to find further bodies from the canal where a private bus fell after skidding on the VIP road near Baguihati.
