CBI to begin probe into Arushi murder
May 31st, 2008 | Category:Delhi News, Haryana News, India News, National NewsCBI will begin its probe into Arushi murder next week after getting all the details from the Noida Police. CBI had got a letter from the Union ministry of personnel seeking its opinion on the Arushi murder case. A senior CBI officer said, “Although the case does not seem to have any interstate ramification or organized crime angle, CBI will accept it as recommended by UP considering the complexities involved in the probe & the sensitivity of the general public”.
The ministry of personnel sent the UP government’s recommendation to CBI for its opinion after it received the state’s letter through fax. The letter included well-documented request notes & the FIR of the case. The fax was sent to the Centre late on Thursday as promised by chief minister Mayawati, who told a press conference the case would be referred to CBI as the family members of the victim had lost faith in the state police.
Sources in CBI said that the notification about the probe could be issued next week only after the agency gives its consent — which appeared to be just a formality in this case. Subsequently, the agency would get all the details from the Noida Police, which has been investigating the case since May 16.
