August 31 — Caste will be included in census, decides centre government. A final decision will be taken in the next Cabinet meeting informs finance minister Pranab Mukherjee.

Mukherjee, also the leader of the House in Lok Sabha, earlier held discussions with OBC outfits regarding this to allay their apprehensions about caste headcount methodology in the decnnial census.

The ministers decides that consultations has to be done in convincing the backward satraps.

The OBC leaders protested in Parliament after the last group of ministers (GoM) meeting that decided on the methodology of the census.

Mukherjee said in the House that all political parties had supported the idea and any “apprehensions” over the issue is not needed.

He said, “The government has more or less decided (to include caste in census).”
