Bishop attacked in Tamil Nadu
Feb 6th, 2008 | Category:India News, National NewsThe police said that the Bishop Jayapal David of Tirunelveli suffered minor injuries when a group of persons allegedly attacked him at Tirunelveli. They tore the bishop’s clothes & seriously wounded his car driver. The incident is said to be a fall out of a dispute over recent Tirunelveli Diocese elections. The police said that three persons had been arrested in connection with the incident. The Bishop was addressing a meeting of the Tirunelveli Diocese priests organised to discuss the arrangements for ‘upavasa’ (penance) days, when some persons entered the meeting venue & attacked on the bishop & others. Two groups led by Vedanayagam & A.D.J. Dinakaran fought the elections which turned out to be bitter & ended in a series of litigations.
