Bengali theatre personality Ganesh Mukherjee passed away

Mukherjee had been admitted to the private hospital about a week back following renal problems, left behind his two daughters, his family said. His wife had passed away long back.
He breathed his last at around 3:30 am. Recipient of the Natya Akademy Purashkar in 2001, Mukherjee had scripted dramas like “Ki Bibhrat” (What a mess), “Jai Jayanti” & “Nat Nati”. They were shown for over 1,000 nights on the stage & enjoyed immense popularity.
A prolific writer, he had also penned several articles on drama & was a visiting professor, drama, Rabindra Bharati University. The news of his death, on the 147th birth anniversary celebrations of Rabindranath Tagore, cast a gloom in the Bengali theatre circles.
