Feb 6th, 2008 | Category:India News, National News
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee asked the political parties to be careful in selecting candidates, repeating Vice President Hamid Ansari’s concern a day earlier over high percentage of legislators facing criminal charges. Chatterjee told reporters after addressing valedictory of All India Conference of Whips,”Parties should be more careful in selecting the candidates”. Inaugurating the conference yesterday, Vice President Hamid Ansari had said that 23 per cent of MPs in current Lok Sabha are facing criminal charges & half of them are facing charges for offences punishable with more than five years’ jail term. Chatterjee endorsed this view, but said, “There is difference between facing chargesheet and being convicted.”
