Apr 7th, 2008 | Category:Cities News, India News, Mumbai News, National NewsBalasaheb Thackeray the chief of Shiv Sena has given an article which appeared in the party mouthpiece ‘Saamna’ on Monday, Thackeray wrote that Bachchan will fight for the state where he works & where he has been living for the past 40 years.
Don’t drag Amitabh into the ‘karambhoomi’ controversy as he doesn’t belong to any particular region, the Shiv Sena chief further said.
The remarks came after a recent front page article in Saamna targeted Bachchan – who was born in Uttar Pradesh but achieved stardom in Mumbai – on the issue of Marathi pride.
Thackeray said in his article written in “Samna”, “Amitabh Bachchan is our family friend. I have neither said anything against him nor written against him in the editorial. The hue & cry which has been created by the media regarding the news in Saamana is condemnable. Our relations with Amitabh are not so weak that it can be broken by electronic media news”.
In his article, Thackeray also attacked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for targeting Amitabh & Jaya Bachchan. Mayawati was troubling Jaya for no reason, he wrote.
Thackeray’s remarks came just days after Jaya Bachchan, a Samajwadi Party MP, lashed out at Mayawati, accusing her of pursuing action against her husband Amitabh for “cheap publicity”. “Mayawati is doing this for cheap publicity.
