Bailable warrants issued against Aamir Khan & Ashutosh Gowariker

An official said that bailable warrants has been issued against Bollywood actor Aamir Khan & four others for filming chinkara, an animal protected under the Wildlife Act, in the superhit Bollywood movie “Lagaan” by a court in Gujarat on Thursday.

Aamir Khan has been ordered to appear before the court before 15 April. The warrant has been issued by the Kutch CJM court.
Among the four others is the film’s director Ashutosh Gowariker. Commercial shooting of Chinkara is banned under the Wildlife (Protection) Act.

A Chinkara, a Schedule I animal under the Act, was filmed in the 2002 superhit movie which was shot in Kutch district of Gujarat.

The Gujarat Forest Department had filed an FIR in the court against Aamir Khan & others. Aamir had not been given permission for the filming, nevertheless a chinkara features in the film.

An NGO filed a case against Aamir & others after the film’s release. The Gujarat Forest Department had sent numerous notices to the actor and the crew, but to no avail.
