Army called out in flood-hit Midnapore
The army has been called out on Wednesday to assist the administration in Midnapore district of West Bengal where the flood situation remained grim affecting 1.5 lakh people. Defence spokesman Group captain R K Das has said,
“We have received a request from the West Bengal government to assist in relief & rescue operations in Midnapore district of West Bengal. Accordingly, one team each from 3 Madras Regiment & engineers is being sent”.
He further said that the teams would begin relief & rescue operations in Sabang, Narayangarh & Pungla areas later in the day.
