Ansar Burney who is the Pakistan’s caretaker Minister for Human Rights said that he would not seek mercy for Sarabjit Singh, the Indian convicted for the killing of 14 people in Pakistan in 1991. Ansar Burney was played a key role in securing the release of Indian, Kashmir Singh.
Ansar Burney said, “Sarabjit Singh’s case is different, as he is charged with terrorism”.
Sarabjit Singh, who is to be hanged on April 1, has been in a Pakistan jail since 1991. The Supreme Court had rejected his appeal for mercy in March last year and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf rejected his petition in March this year.
Burney said he had supported the release of Kashmir Singh because he had paid for his crime. He also said Kashmir Singh’s confession of having spied for India was not surprising.
