Ansar Burney appealed in favour of Sarabjit Singh
Ansar Burney the Pakistan’s caretaker Minister for Human Rights on Friday appealed to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf to convert Sarabjit’s death sentence to life imprisonment. In his appeal, Burney said Sarabjit has spent 17 years in prison, which is more than life imprisonment. Sarabjit’s execution was scheduled for April 1 but then was deferred to April 30.
Earlier, Ansar Burney had said that he would not seek mercy for Sarabjit Singh, the Indian convicted for the killing of 14 people in Pakistan in 1991. Ansar Burney said, “Sarabjit Singh’s case is different, as he is charged with terrorism”.
Sarabjit Singh has been in a Pakistan jail since 1991. The Supreme Court had rejected his appeal for mercy in March last year & Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf rejected his petition in March this year.
