9-year-old girl commit suicide in Chennai
A 9-year-old girl commit suicide in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Thursday after she was “punished” by her teacher after being accused of “stealing” petty cash, a pen & a notebook of classmates, Police said today.
An official of Police said that the fourth standard girl of Kodungaiyur was pulled up by her teacher, suspecting that she had stolen the items.
The teacher took her to the school headmistress, who allegedly punished the girl by making her stand outside the class room, besides asking her to come with parents today. She was also teased by school mates as “thief”, which added to her frustration.
On Thursday evening when her mother was not in the house the girl set herself ablaze, before locking up her two sisters in a room. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed her to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where she later died on Thursday night.
The girl’s mother Parameswari has lodged a police complaint against the teacher for instigating suicide.
Police is investigating the matter.
