Serial Blasts rocked Assam

At least 66 people have been killed & more than 200 injured in 18 serial blasts in Assam on Thursday, Timesnow reported. The blasts took place at crowded market areas. Blasts have been reported at Ganeshguri, Fancy Bazaar, Dispur Road & Pan Bazaar area in Guwahati & Barpeta, Kokrajhar & Bongaigaon districts.

One blast went off just 100 metres from the residence of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. Another exploded in front of the Kamrup district Deputy Commissioner’s office. The explosions occurred within a span of one hour, with the first one going off at around 11:30 am. High Alert has been sounded in Assam. No organization has taken responsibility for the attack, but ULFA’s involvement is suspected.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil had condemned the serial blasts in Assam even as he went into an urgent meeting with National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan to discuss measures to control the situation.
