Several incidents of violence were reported across Punjab during elections to Zila Parishads & Panchayat Samities that left one person dead & nine others injured on Monday.

Eight persons have been injured in a clash between Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) & Congress workers at a polling station at Dhapai village in Kapurthala district.

In Kotisekhan in Moga district, polling remained suspended for about two hours after the presiding officer was allegedly thrashed by SAD workers. The polling resumed after Senior Superintendent of Police, Moga, Ashok Baath, assured the presiding officer & other polling staff of their personal security.

Police said an altercation took place between SAD polling agent Gursewak Singh & Congress activist & head of Fatehgarh Koratan villager Jaswinder Singh on the Moga-Jalandhar road this morning.

Jaswinder Singh then allegedly fired at Gursewak Singh. He was overpowered by people present at the scene & later arrested by police. A 65-year-old man was killed in Ropar district after some people stopped him from guiding women towards polling booths.
