by Sunil Sonkar

Varun Gandhi, the BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Pilibhit was arrested today and had been sent to judicial custody for 2 days. He moved a surrender plea in Pilibhit court, where a case was filed against him for his ‘hate’ speech.

The next hearing is on Monday. The Chief Judicial Magistrate sent Varun to a 2 day judicial custody.

The sentence of the court came shortly after Varun Gandhi addressed the press outside the court. He said, he was “ready to go to jail” for the people of Uttar Pradesh and for the people of India.

Varun Gandhi claimed that he was a victim of political conspiracy. He further added in his brief to the media, “This is a conspiracy in which I have been framed. I have full faith in the law and in the judiciary. I believe in my principles and I am willing to fight for them… I am ready to go to jail.”

Varun Gandhi, who is 29-year-old, was clad in a red-coloured kurta. He was greeted by supporters of BJP in huge numbers.

Varun also said, “The only objective of my coming here is to strengthen my people, my society and the whole country…..I will not step back, if by my going to jail others are encouraged to stand by their principles, to fight by their principles.”

The BJP supporters also blocked roads and clashed with the police in Pilibhit. Around 50 of them were detained.
