57% votes amid violence in Phase IV in 15th Lok Sabha Election

57% voters turnout in Lok Sabha Phase IV polls. Reported 4 persons were killed, 3 of them in West Bengal and one in Rajasthan. There are reports of stray violence, police firing and booth-capturing attempts.

Unofficial report comes of a member of a political party shot dead in Nandigram in West Bengal. A CPM worker killed in a bomb attack by unidentified persons in Jangipur. One voter killed and eight persons, including three policemen, were injured in Asansol Lok Sabha constituency in Burdwan district.

One person killed in an attack allegedly by TMC at Amta of Howrah district after the polling. One another person was killed at Olwara village in Rajasthan’s Sawaimadhopur district.

Despite the violence, West Bengal drew the highest voter turnout of 75% followed by Punjab (65 per cent), Haryana (63 per cent), Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh (50 per cent each).

Delhi saw a turnout of 50%. Srinagar evoked a voters response of 24% despite a boycott call by separatists.
