Presidents’ chopper hits wall, narrow escape

BHUBANESHWAR, India: The chopper blade which carried President Pratibha Patil brushed against a wall while landing at the Bhubaneshwar airport.

Patil was traveling on Indian Air Force helicopter on Wednesday with husband Devisingh Shekhawat. The incident took place at around 1700 hrs IST.

According to eyewitnesses, the blade of the chopper brushed against an abandoned building’s wall and for a while it became “unstable” and then it landed safely at the airport.

Press secretary to the President Archana Dutta said, Presideng Patil walked to her official car after the incident. She added, “The president is fine, nothing happened to her.”

President Patil was on a three-day visit to Bhubaneshwar and she visited the temple town of Puri.

According to the secretary of the President, he has spoken to the Defence Ministry officials for seeking an investigation into the incident and also for “appropriate action” to be taken on it.
