18th July, 2012, New Delhi: A day after West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced that her party will vote for Pranab Mukherjee in the Presidential election which is scheduled to take place on 19th July, now she is sending a representative from her party to attend a lunch to be hosted by Sonia Gandhi for the UPA’s MPs and other backing parties on Wednesday.
But still, it seems that Mamata Banerjee is drawing a point by sending a low profile party leader – K. D. Singh as TMC representative.
The luncheon is targeted to have a much better interaction with all the MPs of United Progressive Alliance as well as other parties that are supporting Pranab Mukherjee for the Presidential poll.
The election managers of UPA were very much confident that their candidate Pranab Mukherjee will win the election against P. A. Sangma, who is backed by BJP. Now with the support of TMC, they have hardly anything to worry about.
According to reports, yesterday Congress President Sonia Gandhi had thanked Mamata Banerjee for her party’s support for the UPA candidate and personally invited the TMC chief to the lunch.
Yesterday, at the West Bengal state secretariat, Mamata Banerjee announced that her party has decided to vote for Pranab Mukherjee as they have no other option.
