KOLKATA, India: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said on Sunday that the Maoists and the Marxists are the two sides of the same coin. She said this countering the allegation of the CPM that correlated TMC with Maoists
Banerjee said to the media, “I think that the Marxists and the Maoists are both sides of the same coin. They are working together.”
She alleged the Maoists are supporting the CPM to run the government and she also added that there was no difference between the violent activities of the Maoists and Marxists in the state.
She added, “If Maoists are to be banned, why not the CPM which is also carrying out armed operations in the state?”
Earlier yesterday the Chief Minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee appealed to the Trinamool Congress to “severe links with the rebels”.
Ms. Banerjee accused Bhattacharjee of inaction in tracing the missing policemen Sabir Ali Molla and Kanchan Gorai who were kidnapped by the Maoists on July 30.
TMC chief also mentioned, “The Union Home Minister had said that the Centre is willing to help in the search of these two policemen. I want to know why they are not being looked for even after this. Does not the Chief Minister have the responsibility to look for them?”
In her claims she also said the West Bengal government was using CPM cadre in carrying out armed operations against the opposition leaders and workers. According to Banerjee, 69 Trinamool supporters, over the past few months, have been killed by the CPM activists.
She said she had given the evidence report of this to the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.
