About 300 to 400 LTTE militants is suspected to have infiltrated into India in the guise of refugees fleeing Sri Lanka. This warning comes from the intelligence agencies here in India. Sources said that the intelligence agencies had received reports that LTTE lower level cadres may have come in the country and could be among those currently being held in high security camps for screening.
Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, the coastal states, have been on high alert these days following the Sri Lankan military action against the LTTE that had thousands of Tamil civilians fleeing the war zone.
The sources from the Home Ministry said that they had received reports of LTTE cadres paving their way into the refugee camps. A senior official of the ministry said, “All refugees are being screened and we are keeping any suspicious people in high security camps. The rest are being sent to open camps.”
