6th July, 2012, New Delhi: Intelligence Bureau (IB) have asked for details from DoT (Department of Telecom) regarding the Chinese firm ZTE’s role in dealing Airtel’s 4G network in Kolkata, where the telecom giant started their 4G service in April.
They also asked whether the local people have trained in managing the network. Apart from Kolkata, Airtel, the company has also launched their 4G service in Bangalore also.
A spokesperson for Bharti Airtel told that ZTE deal with their 4G network in Kolkata and beyond that they have nothing to say at this point of time. Airtel had chose ZTE Corporation to design, plan and deploy their 4G network in the city of joy, whereas in Bengalore the company chose another Chinese company Huawei to manage and deploy their network.
Airtel has bagged BWA (Broadband Wireless Access) licence to provide ultra high speed data services in Kolkata, Punjab, Karnataka and Maharashtra circles. The firm has paid Rs 3,314.36 crore as spectrum and licence fee in the auction that held in 2010’s June.
