India reacts aggressively to China’s PoK project

by Sunil Sonkar

india-chinaIndia responded aggressively China on the statement of President Hu Jintao that China would continue to support projects in the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and also on the dissatisfaction expression of China on Manmohan Singh’s Arunachal Pradesh visit considering the place to be an extension of Tibet and it is their own territory.

MEA spokesperson Vishnu Prakash said in a statement, “Pakistan is in illegal possession of parts of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir since 1947. The Chinese side is fully aware of India’s position and our concerns about Chinese activities in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. We hope that the Chinese side will take a long term view of the India-China relations, and cease such activities in areas illegally occupied by Pakistan.”

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in Kolkata, “Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and the just-concluded assembly election has proved that it was held under the Indian Constitution”

Air Marshal P K Barbara, the Indian Air Force Vice-Chief said in New Delhi that India has never said anything to China about developing infrastructure and airbases in Tibet so they should also not tell India.

Home Minister P Chidambaram reiterated on a visit to Srinagar as a good measure that Chinese workers can only come to India on employment visa and not on business visas any further.

India-China war ended in 1962 in which China seized about 38,000 sq km of Indian territory in Aksai Chin in the eastern-most fringes of J&K. Under 1963 Pakistan went on to unilaterally cede around 5,120 km of territory in the northern Kashmir to China.

  2. Tapan says:

India must stop its aggressive behaviour & instead talk to China directly on such issues as Arunachal Pradesh, Tibet & Kashmir

Tit for Tat was never Bapu Gandhi’s Policy.

It is time for India & China to start with special dialogues & resolve issues with mutual respect.

Both countries must stop pressing demands which has no solution today.
