A K Antony, defence minister, said it was not expected by India about a “miracle” from the resumption of talks between the two countries that concluded recently at the foreign secretary-level in New Delhi. He also noted that it is just a beginning.

A K Antony was talking to the media after the Air Force show that he attended, which was also witnessed by President Pratibha Patil and other dignitaries in Pokharan.

Replying to a question by reporters whether Pak government had kept its promises of stopping the use of its territory for terror activities against India, he said: “There are 42 terror camps still active in Pakistan and there is no serious attempt or effort to dismantle them. This is the main cause of concern for us.”

Antony also mentioned that the recent foreign secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan could not be considered a failure because it was just a beginning and miracles were not expected from this effort.

He said, “We took a considered decision on holding FS-level talks with Pakistan. We were not expecting miracles from the talks. It was just a beginning.”

Speaking about the recent threat by Hafiz Saeed, the chief of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), Antony said: “I would like to assure the nation that it is safe. Every inch of our land will be protected. We are not worried about any threat from any quarter. Our armed forces are prepared 24/7 around the year to tackle any threat from any quarter but at the same time we are not war-mongers.”

In an interview to a Pakistani TV channel, Hafiz Saeed told that if New Delhi is not prepared to hold talks, Pakistan will have to “fight a war at all costs”.
