Hyderabad, April 12 — The cross border celebrity wedding between Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik finally took place on Monday at the Taj Krishna in Hyderabad at 1 pm. It was a private function with only close family members been invited.

Tennis star Sania wore a red saree in the wedding that her mother had worn 25 years ago on her own wedding and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib wore black sherwani designed by fashion designers Shantanu and Nikhil.

There was much hype related to their marriage in the media. Originally it was scheduled on April 15 and also re-scheduling stories also kept coming in the media.

Rucha Nayak, spokesperson of Sania, earlier in the day said the ‘nikah’ will be performed soon, but she however did not divulge the venue details.

She said, “I will like to confirm that the nikah of Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik will be taking place shortly. The venue and timing cannot be confirmed as of now due to security reasons.”

She also added while briefing to the media, “This is a very personal thing in Shoaib and Sania’s life. We hope you respect the sentiments of their families.”

Nayak also gave details that the ‘Mehendi’ is scheduled for April 13, Sangeet on April 14 and reception will be held on April 15 as scheduled.”

Since the announcement of the two sports icons’ marriage in the media, there were much debates, accusations and counter accusations as a Hyderabadi girl Ayesha Sidduqui claimed to be Shoaib’s first wife to which the cricketer denied. However, amidst much controversies Shoaib finally agreed to divorce Ayesha.
