20th August, 2012, New Delhi: Beni Prasad Verma, the Union Steel Minister has fueled a controversy with his comment that rising price is good farmers as they would het benefit from it. On Sunday, while speaking to reporters, Beni Prasad Verma told that rice, dal, wheat and vegetables have become costly. He is happy with this price rise as it would benefit them.
He also added that the media is creating an issue about the inflation by saying that the food plate coast has increased, but this is benefiting farmers and the government is in favor of them.
The time when UPA government is under huge pressure over slow growth rate and rising prices, this kind of comment would surely put them in a tight spot in the Parliament.
Salman Khurshid, the Union Law Minister, told that Beni’s statement must be seen in a right way. Khurshid told that if farmers get a good price for his effort, then it is inevitable that the price in the market would also go up.
In the meantime, political parties have already criticized Union Steel Minister’s statements. Mohan Singh, the Samajwadi Party leader, told that if Beni Prasad is not moved out from the Cabinet post, then SP might think of leaving the alliance.
Bharatiya Janata Party, the main opposition party, had stated that Union Minister’s comments shows the government’s thinking on inflation.
