Be Alert In India During CWG: US To Citizen

Washington, September 2 — “Terrorist action and violence” may take place during Commonwealth Games in New Delhi between October 3-14 says US and has warned its citizens travelling to or residing in India. The US mission in India has asked their citizens travelling within Delhi to take care.

On Wednesday, a statement was issued by the US state department saying, “The US mission in India alerts US citizens travelling to or residing in India to safety and security issues related to the 2010 Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in New Delhi.”

Though the statement said that no information of any threat or attack has been received to the US government, but it warned of a “worldwide” caution.

The statement asked its citizens travelling to India to keep themselves updated with all the travel alerts and security warnings. They are also advised to monitor local news reports and think accordingly while visiting public places, religious sites, choosing hotels, restaurants, recreation and entertainment venues.

The statement said, “Special care should be taken when using public transportation or driving at night.”

Tourists are also adviced to be alert at airports and train stations and to be aware of scam artists.
