Hafiz Saeed, the Chief of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), the banned Islamist organization, and also founder of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has been released by the Lahore High Court today. He was detained in connection to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. He was under house arrest from December 12, 2008.
According to a spokesperson of Jammat-ud-Dawa, “Saeed is not a terrorist.” He also added the JuD was not a terror organisation either.
A K Dogar, the lawyer of Hafiz Saeed said that the high court described the detention illegal and so he was set free.
Saeed’s lawyer said, “The court has ordered that the detention of Hafiz Saeed was a violation of the constitution and the law of this country.”
Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone gunman caught alive in the 26/11 Mumbai attack, admitted to being trained by the LeT for the Mumbai attacks.
